road trip

The future Mr. Tangognat and I are about to embark on a cross country road trip where we will drive to ALA, and along the way I will meet his parents and he will meet mine. One benefit of driving to Illinois – I was able to pack 6 pairs of shoes, maybe 7. I lost track. I hope that will last me for two weeks. I hope we both survive being trapped in a small moving vehicle for extended periods of time.

Blogging may be sporadic. Or not, depending on internet connectivity.

30

For three decades I have inflicted myself upon the world! Woo!

I’m taking today off work, and am going to go out to lunch and a movie with the future Mr. TangognT, he flew in to visit me last night.

I sense that I have a few birthday presents arriving at some point, but nothing has appeared so far. Maybe the UPS man will visit while I’m out watching Star Wars.

no drooling or twitching at the reference desk, please

I don’t know what possessed me to schedule both an annual physical and a dentist visit to get some fillings replaced on the same day. Perhaps my impending old age (I turn 30 next week) has impaired my faculties. So today I woke up, went to the doctor, got poked and prodded and got a prescription for flonase which I need to fill very soon. Then I went into work for a couple hours. Then I went to the dentist. The right side of my face was still numb when I got back to work. I was fighting the urge to make weird faces as the novacaine was wearing off while I was on the desk. I ended up getting fancy white fillings which were sort of expensive. I think I could have bought a couple pairs of fluevogs with my new fillings. I guess the advantage is that if anyone were to film a closeup of my mouth while I yodel, the right side of my mouth looks all pristine and not riddled with silver fillings now. Except I don’t yodel.

I decided that all the walking to and from work and appointments combined with all the trauma I subjected my body to today meant I deserved pizza for dinner. So I’m settling down with some pizza, the second disk of Samurai Champloo, and a newly arrived box of comics and manga from DCBS.

counting steps

So I wandered around today wearing a pedometer just to get a sense of how many steps I need to get to the magic 10,000 steps. If I walk home from work, I hit 7,500 steps which isn’t horrible. I have an exercise bike and I usually ride it for 45 minutes. If I go for a 15-20 minute walk during my lunch break and start riding the bike closer to an hour a day, that would be a good goal. Also yoga 3x a week. I’m trying to exercise more, and now daylight savings time helps me out, because I don’t walk home in the dark. I usually have to wait a bit into spring for it to still be light enough around 6:00 for me to feel comfortable walking.

Oh No, They Say She’s Got to Go

Go Go Bridezilla, Yeah!
Oh No, There Goes Tokyo!

I’m trying not to be a bridezilla and actually have a mellow approach to planning my wedding, as I will be married in approximately 14 months (?). Being a librarian my first impulse on getting engaged was to research, so I bought a bunch of scary bridal magazines and started lurking on indiebride. We have an idea for a location (can’t book it until this July), and officiant (my dad), an outline for the ceremony (modified Buddhist), I was obsessing over invitations last week and I found myself wondering if the colors sage and mocha were not summery enough for a June wedding. Because the invitation colors have to match the season of the wedding! That seemed a bit surreal. I registered a domain for a wedding web site (because my hosting company offers one free registration) because I think I should collect a ton of links and directions for all the out of town people who might be at a loss for things to do in central Illinois. I’m also wondering if it would be crazy to try to knit a chuppa…..
