Bureau Chiefs Site is ALIVE!

So things have been busy around here! I’m pleased to announce that the many-headed (just like a hydra, except we write on the internet) group of authors behind FakeAPStylebook known as the Bureau Chiefs has their own web site to showcase their writings at The Bureau Chiefs. I set up the web site with drupal and Benjamin Birdie did the awesome graphics.

I’m planning on doing the occasional manga and YA literature article over there. Visit the site often or add it to your feed reader because we’ll be posting new pieces there every weekday.

Manga Views Update

There’s a new poll on Manga Views, What is your favorite Fumi Yoshinaga manga?

I’ve also filled in a ton of reviews from A to E. Many of the titles that just had one review link as a placeholder now have 5+ review links, so I hope that will be useful! This month is going to be extra busy for me, so while I’ll still update the site as I can, I’m not likely to have time to do a huge block of data entry until next month. I’m planning on going through all the manga in the Manga Views database and adding additional links eventually. If any bloggers out there have time to add their own review links, that would be great!

Thanks!

I wanted to say thanks very much to those of you who have been doing your holiday shopping at Amazon through this site! I get a kickback and I think I’ll have enough credit to get an after holiday treat for myself, so your click throughs are much appreciated 🙂

Comics Retailing Troglodyte

I do have a fondness for the institution of the local comic book store, even though I don’t have the time to do the weekly run on new comics day anymore. I’ve been in some lovely and friendly comic book stores, but sadly the Simpsons’ stereotype of The Android’s Dungeon does reflect some elements of reality. There are really horrible shops out there run by people don’t act in the way any businessman or woman should. Case in point, Larry of Larry’s Comics has been exhibiting some incredibly bizarre behavior lately. Not only did he attempt an internet throw down over a rejected snack cake with Kevin, Larry is the guy who decided to post this offensive image of a woman being groped by someone wearing Green Lantern rings (NSFW) and have an additional twitter meltdown over Ragnell’s great blog post. I wouldn’t be posting this if I wasn’t friends with Kevin and Ragnell, but I do know now that if I’m ever comic shopping in Massachusetts I definitely won’t be shopping at this guy’s store.
