Mavs drinking!

One problem with being a librarian and having a blog, I have a sick urge to play reference librarian for the people that are appearing in my referrer logs looking for news about Dirk and Steve drinking.
It was originally coming up due to two completely unrelated posts in my archives. I just it just goes to show how unintelligent search engines are!
I personally have no problem with Dirk and Steve drinking. There are far far worse things that NBA players do (and have done recently) than have a few beers and look goofy. I mean, let's face it, Dirk and Steve look goofy all the time anyway, dont they?
Here you go!

83!!!

A strange sense of calm came over me when the Mavs set the all time playoff record for most points by one team in the first half of a game.

All is right with the world.

Sometimes I wonder if I am a mean spirited vindictive person, because I was not unhappy when Chris Weber went down with a knee injury and Bobby Jackson fractured his cheekbone when running into Rafe LaFrentz.

And then I think, no way!!!!

the agony

I missed a new episode of Alias tonight to see the Blazers stomp on the Mavs. I managed to catch a couple seconds where Dixon let a fake bomb go off, terrorizing David Carradine (?), but that was it.

Why did you have 0 points, 4 turnovers, and only 3 assists, Steve Nash? Why on earth did Michael Finley have "flu-like symptoms?" What is going on?
Maybe they really, really wanted to end the series in Dallas.

Fulfilling the promise of globalization

From the Dan Patrick interview with Dirk:

DP: Did you enjoy being Time's Person of the Week in May 2002?
DN: I didn't know I was.
DP: Yeah, for fulfilling the promise of globalization.
DN: I don't know what that means, but it's awesome.

Playoffs

Why I love the NBA playoffs:

Yesterday Dirk Nowitzki beat his assistant coach Rolando Blackman's previous franchise high record for most points in a playoff game with 46 points! And 10 rebounds! And I can see the Mavs play again on Wednesday. I have to store up all the NBA goodness to get me through the long, cruel summer of baseball.

Why I love the Mavs:

1) Initially it was my extreme hatred of Utah. It was not fun, living in Utah, where every other commercial on the radio was for the car dealership owned by the owner of the Jazz. Or the Jazz players, like Mr. Karl Malone's Honda Dealership. Or the Stockton to Malone Honda dealership. At one point, I thought if I heard the "Stockton to Malone" jingle again, my brain would explode.

I was SO happy when the Mavs knocked Utah out of the playoffs a couple years ago. Dirk and Steve were running all over the court, they were so happy, and I was so happy that many sports fans in Utah were crushed! Crushed!

2) Dirk. I will admit, I dig the floppy hair and his crazy shooting skills. I hope he can build on what he did tonight. I'm glad Michael Finley started to wake up after being on the bench for so long, and I hope Steve Nash starts hitting more shots. I just decided that I would adore him forever after he got his tooth knocked out playing against the spurs in 2001, came back and the Mavs won the game.

3) Mark Cuban is totally insane, but I think he is the only owner of a professional sports team that would go on a mock date to a mall with Jay Mohr, buy a copy of the phantom tollbooth, and skip around with a flower in his hair. And you never know when he's going to get hit by a monster fine for being mouthy.

basketball and maggots

Somehow I slept through the Mavs game on Sunday. They beat the Timberwolves, and Dirk had 33 points.
Here is a lovely quote, "It's tough to figure out how a team can lose track of a 7-footer who can score from anywhere on the court, but the Timberwolves always have trouble keeping a man on Nowitzki. "
I always get a little listless when baseball season starts. Because sportscenter will be baseball all the time, and the baseball coverage makes me sleepy. I'll have to psych myself for the Mavs-Lakers game on Thursday. Perhaps I will spend some time thinking evil thoughts in the general direction of Shaq's big toe.

Watched "Sharpe's Eagles" and enjoyed the Masterpiece Theateresque qualities of it. Any movie that opens with Sean Bean's leg being demaggoted can't be bad...
