Books

Spymaster’s Lady, My Lord and Spymaster by Joanna Bourne

Bollywood Posters by Jeremy Pinto and Sheena Sippy – Fabulous collection of posters, arranged by theme and year. It was interesting seeing the traditional painted posters contrasted with the ones that look more like the type of design you’d see coming out of Hollywood. The posters were arranged by genre, and even though I haven’t seen a ton of Bollywood movies I was able to recognize some of the modern actors. Many of the posters were photographed on the sides of buildings, buses, etc. Great coffee table book for the movie buff.

Mystic and Rider, The Thirteenth House, Dark Moon Defender, Reader and Raelynx by Sharon Shinn (rereads) – I tore through this series when reading it for a second time.

Evolution, Me and Other Freaks of Nature by Robin Brande – Slightly didactic but well-written YA novel about a girl dealing with a church protesting the teaching of evolution in her science class.

Twins from Fetus to Child by Alessandra Piontelli – Longitudinal study of 30 pairs of Italian twins. One of the more scientific twin books I’ve read, some of the parental behavior recounted like picking a favorite twin and scapegoating the other was really disturbing.

Manga and Graphic Novels

Invincible Iron Man – I waited to buy this until it was out in paperback, and it is the perfect graphic novel for someone who hasn’t read many Iron Man comics before but really liked the recent movie.
Skip Beat #17
Mixed Vegetables 3 – The plot twists in this book often seem pointlessly arbitrary and predictable. But then there are tiny moments I find utterly charming like the way the heroine twists the arm of a man trying to grope her as she serves tea at a sushi shop and delivers a lecture about how one’s hands should not touch anything but sushi at the restaurant because “sushi is life.”
