I’ve noticed with kids that they are turned off by something that isn’t polished – if it looks ‘old’, they want nothing to do with it. After the last 20 years or so of computer coloring, I have found it quite difficult to get the kids to read ANYTHING vintage!! Jack Kirby art? They won’t touch it. Ernie Colon? “Not smooth enough”. How’s about Batman issues from the 80s & 90s? “Too old looking”. *sigh*

Glad you’re liking the Amethyst art! I think that nowadays kids are conditioned to go for manga-style art a little bit more. Old school comic art like this might appear a little crowded/complex to them. Oh well!

Love the panels you’re showing. The design in the mini-series was beautiful. But you know what’s odd? I can’t get the girls in my elementary library to pick it up! They’ll read Harlequin Pink manga, Courtney Crumin, Miki Falls, Babymouse, and Yotsuba &! without turning a hair. I even have some girls who are gaga over the Archie books; but they won’t touch Amethyst. Apparently she’s too “comicy” for the manga fans and too “mangay” for the comic fans. The intolerance of 5th and 6th girls is frightening.
