I think Hale also wasn't really able to fully make the transition from YA to adult writing, which would account for the tone of the book being a little off too. But I do think the timing is still good, at least, the 1995 P&P is still a popular film to watch. And Bridget Jones lusted after Mr. Darcy on the silver screen as recently as 2004.
