Books

It was a big month for YA books.

Kiki Strike by Kirsten Miller - This was a utterly fabulous book about renegade girl scouts exploring a secret underground world in New York.
The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga - Tale of troubled teens, with plenty of very authentic comic book references.
Midnighters Book 2: Touching Darkness by Scott Westerfeld - After reading the first book in this series about teenagers with strange powers during the midnight hour, when the world freezes, I have to finish the series.
So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld - This is my favorite Westerfeld book! I love the plot, which blends cool-hunting, a mystery, and culture-jamming.
The Mislaid Magician or Ten Years After: Being the Private Correspondence Between Two Prominent Families Regarding a Scandal Touching the Highest Levels of Government and the Security of the Realm by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer - The sequels aren’t as good as the first book in this series, but it was still enjoyable.
Spirits that Walk in Shadow by Nina Kiriki Hoffman - Just excellent!
The Deception of the Emerald Ring by Lauren Willig - Disposable but fun book with plenty of swashbuckling.

I’d been searching for weeks for a second Christmas gift for my school librarian mother (I’d call my dad, ask “does she have this book?” and get a yes, every time) when I came across your post. I got her Kiki Strike, so thanks!
