I had no idea there was a movie version!

I have to say, I don't mind it when they don't redo the sound effects, but I can read katakana so I can usually figure out what is going on.

The movie they made from this was pretty good. It got terrible reviews on Netflix/Amazon, i.e. "Quite possibly the worst film known to man, woman or child", but I quite enjoyed it. I did not know it came from manga until later, so I may go back and read it and see how faithful it is.

I read this and quite liked it, but was disappointed by Tokyopop not translating any of the sound effects. It seemed like they'd be an important part of the story, especially to help create the proper mood. Instead I found myself wondering what sort of noises the characters were reacting to, which was pretty distracting.
