ninja librarian, pseudo manga shakespeare, too much legion

in: pip

Ninja Librarian, if it were a movie I would totally watch it.
Wiley will publish manga-style Shakespeare adaptations.
I’ve read the first 4 Legion of Super-Heroes archive editions in the past 48 hours. Now I’m thinking that I’ll need to change my name to “Tango Lass”. Really, my brain is mush. Those silver-age DC comics are crazy.

Puffin Graphics has a version of Macbeth manga-style. I glanced at a copy at a bookstore a few months ago, but didn’t really like the art too much.

I’d rather read or watch actual Shakespeare than an adaptation anyway. It is interesting that people are trying to put out educational manga style stuff now though.

    Hi there,

I stumbled accross your site and this discussion interested me. I am actually an artist working with London based publisher Metro Media on a manga adaptation of Hamlet. My colleague Sonia Leong is working on Romeo and Juliet. Ours are due for release in 2007. I had seen the macbeth (and also didn’t like the art too much), though I wasn’t aware previously of the Wiley versions….A little close to home! It’s a shame to see the same plays being chosen. Adapting Shakespeare into manga is an exciting venture and one I’m loving as a huge fan of the plays, but for it to succeed, we don’t want to saturate the market with the same titles. ;^_^

It was interesting to find the subject being breached here. Apologies for jumping in!

    Regards,
    Emma Vieceli ^_^

seen the new titles - really cool, but even cooler is the Millennium Shakespeare series in the classical form, covering the whole shakepeare canon… they are worth reading too. I think Manga is definately for yooung kids and teenagers but completely lost the Shakspeareian element…check the art on herewww.myspace.com/millenniumshakespeare

Millenium Shakespeare is cool, but Manga is something far more modern, unique and exciting and the Shakespeare is by no means lost!!!

I’ve been looking at the Classical Comics Shakespeare, and i love the artwork. New idea seems to be three versions, one is the original unabridged Shakespeare text that I need for school. Cool!
