Books
Touched by Venom by Janine Cross - There was a lot of circumcision, castration, and bestiality in this book. Really a lot. It was odd. I should have known better since Jacqueline Carey of all people blurbed it as being “harrowing”. Indeed.
High Five by Janet Evanovich - Another Stephanie Plum book. I think I’ve almost read the entire series now.
Making It Up by Penelope Lively - This was my favorite book from this month. Lively uses “what might have been” scenarios from her own life to inspire this collection of short stories.
How to Murder a Millionaire by Nancy Martin - Nora Blackbird and her widowed sisters get caught up in a murder case among Philedelphia society people. I breezed through this in a couple hours.
The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde - This was not as fabulous as the Thursday Next books. On the other hand, this new series isn’t weighed down by confusing time shifting and continuity issues that plague the latter volumes of Thursday Next. There were many cute references to nursery rhymes as Jack Spratt investigates Humpty Dumpty’s murder.

I really liked Jacqueline Carey’s first series, despite not wanting to, but I think I’ll avoid anything she blurbs as “harrowing.”

I liked Jacqueline Carey’s first series, but I tried the first book of her second series and found that absolutely unreadable. Yeah, the “harrowing” thing should have been a big clue. I can’t believe I finished that book.
