Chicken Spaghetti points to a couple blogs that are commenting on the similarities between Kaavya Viswanathan’s How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got A Life and Megan McCafferty’s books Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings. I haven’t read Viswanathan’s book. This story was on my mind when I went to the public library today, so I walked by the YA section and was delighted to see that both of McCafferty’s books were available. I’ll be reading them soon.

A few articles from my local paper about this:
The initial report
Viswanathan says plagiarism was unintentional
McCafferty’s publisher respondsViswanathan’s response to response
(If I messed up the html, the articles can be found by going to http://www.northjersey.com and searching for viswanathan.)

I seem to have completely messed that up. The search I listed should work, though. The article from April 25 is probably the one of the most interest, since it includes examples of the similar passages.

Hi Kevin, thanks for the links. I think I fixed the problem in the html code. I just read that they are pulling Viswanathan’s book from the stores.
