I’m toying with the idea of running some ads on this site (maybe just Google AdSense or whatever Yahoo does, I’m not sure) but if a large group of regular readers hates the idea, I probably won’t do it. So, I’m curious, would you find a few ads on this site extremely irksome? Or would it not really matter? Let me know in the comments, or just e-mail me. Thanks!

I say go for it! Of course this is the first time I have visited your site in a long while thanks to the magic of RSS, so my opinion may be meaningless.

Yeah, I don’t think it would have any impact on the people who read the site via RSS, but I think that’s good

I say go for it (then again, I’m contemplating ads as well). As long as it doesn’t overwhem blog content, I’m cool with ads… they even sometimes have an effect on me.

i’m a content-via-rss reader so no impact on me either!

While regular readers might be the loudest proponents for or against ads most of the people clicking them will be random people who find you through google.
As long as the ads fit in with the design I’m a happy web designer.

I was guessing that the people who would be most likely to see the ads would be the ones ending up on the site after a random google search.
I might have to futz with my blogroll a bit, but I was thinking of putting elements of it on a different page anyway.

It wouldn’t matter too much to me.

I say it’s your blog, so you do what you want!
I’ll either click on the ads, or I won’t.

Ads are easy enough to ignore, especially the smallish Google-type ads. The objectionable ones are the pop-ups, pop-unders, the ones that block the text, and anything that moves or otherwise uses up too much bandwidth. I’m one of your regular readers, and I say go for it.

I don’t mind as long as they aren’t those annoying adds that having moving bits. Those annoy me to no end.

I wonder how the IRS would view the income and how much it would complicate your run-up to 4/15?

The ITotD site today is re-running one of its articles from 2004, “Affiliate Programs”. From it, I gather the income isn’t that high, on the whole. Unless TangognaT is very close to the next tax level, it shouldn’t be a problem. And, presumably, the tax account people know where to put the amount in those arcane forms.
