I’m testing out the structured blogging plugin. Corpse Bride was a lovely movie, despite a predictable plot. I always like watching animated movies that aren’t entirely created on a computer, and Tim Burton’s spookiness is perfect for fall. Here’s an interview with the head of the puppet department for the movie.

ratings stars
I’m going to start adding little ratings stars to the posts about what I’ve been reading. I’ve been toying with the idea for some time, so I made some tiny icons using fireworks and the asterisk in the comic sans font. I was thinking about installing a ratings plugin for WordPress, but one that I [...]
blogs about kids books
Sometimes I like browsing other people’s blogrolls to find a bunch of blogs on a particular theme. Here are a few blogs about books for kids of various ages:
Librarian in the Middle
The Misrule Blog
Muller in the Middle
My Inner Child is Reading
Kid’s Lit
The Goddess of YA Literature
Chicken Spaghetti
Book Moot
Book Buds
Big A little a
Orange Splot
Wands and Worlds
cars, gardners, and beans
The movies I watched last week:
Transporter 2 - I do like watching action movies that don’t pretend to be anything else. Our hero Frank is up against Evil Italian Guy in a White Suit and his sidekick Crazy Lingerie Lady With Guns. The action and fight scenes are improbable and goofy, but nothing really reaches [...]

Meru Puri (amazon)
I think I’m rapidly reaching a saturation point with all the shojo manga that I’ve been reading. After rediscovering manga and anime around 3 years ago, I’ve been a fairly uncritical consumer. I was just happy to have some fun manga to read. For the most part, that’s still true but some [...]
NY Times on shojo manga
The New York Times covered shojo manga in an article titled Manga for Girls. Most of the article reads like the typical news coverage of manga that I’m used to seeing in mainstream media - an explanation of what it is and discussing the popularity of manga in bookstores.
The article outlines some of the plots [...]
Back!
I’m back from my mini-vacation. I saw 3 movies, read 4 books and several volumes of manga, ate at my favorite mexican restaurant, bought a bunch of random turquoise clothing on sale while I was waiting to get my bag back, got my bag back, and sent out around 2/3rds of my save the date [...]
Bagless
I had a very weird airplane experience yesterday. The morning before my trip, someone called me and told me that I was being bumped to a 4:00 flight. Then when I arrived at Logan airport, I was put on my original 2:00 flight, I had to run to reach the gate. I was the last [...]
Data Entry Obsession
Well, in a very sad cataloging frenzy I entered in my entire graphic novel/manga collection into LibraryThing. It was easier to start with this subset of my collection because I think my graphic novel to regular book ratio is about 1:3 or 1:4. There might be a stray volume here or there, but I think [...]
