I was giving a presentation today to the instructors I work with for my library instruction classes. The Internet kept fading in and out on the instructor station, so I had a few moments of “Now I’m going to show you this fabulous tutorial….except I can’t connect to the Internet, so maybe I won’t!” We have a classroom control system in place, so I had the option of projecting what was on one of the student computers to everybody, so I got one of my colleagues to project part of my presentation from the back of the room. At one point, I decided to take over to show a couple of things fairly quickly, so I was standing up in the back of the room looking out over a group of people sitting down in front of various computer stations with their backs towards me, looking ahead at a giant glowing projector screen.
I had this striking moment of Star Trek deja vu - because with the layout of the room, I was standing right where Kirk would be on the bridge of the Enterprise.
Things are going to be a bit nutty this week. I think I have over a 12 hour day tomorrow, because we have religious diversity training at 9 am, and I have my late night shift at the desk. I think I should get a “get out of religious diversity” training free pass, because I’m already religiously diverse ![]()
I’m going to use the extra hours tomorrow as justification for showing up for a half-day on Friday, so hopefully Friday afternoon I’ll be able to run off to the movies. Maybe I’ll see both Serenity and Mirrormask!
