I’m wondering a bit about the next season of Alias. I can see why they have to write JG’s pregnancy into the storyline, it is really hard to hide your stomach behind furniture placement and clothing in a spy show. And maybe they can do something intresting with the Rimbaldi storyline, Sydney could be preganat with the anti-Rimbaldi or perhaps Rimbaldi’s clone. But I’m wondering about the uncast new agent female agent who is going to appear. I understand they probably can’t have Sydney run around in a bikini anymore, but the whole situation seems a bit like the introduction of Dawn on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for me. And we all know how well that worked out…

I don’t watch the show, but I’m hearing regular viewers are none too pleased with a spybaby pregnancy in the works.

I’m a little worried, but I’m reserving judgement for now….I think I’m more worried about the replacement Sydney than Spybaby.

I’m reserving judgement in general, I think. I mean who knows where they’re going to go with the not-Vaughn storyline? I could see the not-Vaughn storyline somehow responsible for both spybaby and replacement Sydney.
Funny thing is, in the back of my head and not perjoratively, I’ve always kind of thought of Nadia as replacement Sydney. So it is a little weird and possibly off-putting to be thinking of yet another replacement Sydney.

You know, now that I think of it that’s probably why I’m so ambivalent about a new female agent, because they’ve already done it to some degree with Nadia.

Oh, I hate it when they introduce new characters like Dawn and Nadia. Totally messed up the whole character chemistry with the regular cast. I thought that they would kill off Nadia at the end of the season, sorta like what they did with Vaughn’s wife last season.

I thought that Nadia messing up the character chemistry was a good thing–certainly helped to break the show out of a rut and gave Syd someone else to relate to. Plus, she gave Greg Grunberg some much-needed screentime and a little lovin’, so that’s good too.
I thought I read recently that the new character would be played by Rachel Nichols, recently the lead on The Inside; article says that she will be a CIA analyst, which doesn’t sound like a replacement Syd…

Hmm, I hadn’t heard that the role had been cast yet. Interesting…

Have to agree that I didn’t really mind the addition of Nadia. Do hope they manage to bust her out of her zombie coma so she gets some plot-time this upcoming season.
Rachel Nichols played a damaged suppressed character on The Inside. I only caught a couple episodes, but her character seemed to require flat blank facial expressions so it was hard to tell how good an actress she might really be.

The Inside had a strange history as a tv show.
Originally it was about a team of agents who would go undercover as young folk, a la 21 Jump Street, with Nichols as the lead.
FOX approved the show for midseason, then decided it needed some work. So they brought in Tim Minear (Angel, Firefly, Wonderfalls) as the showrunner and gave him pretty much carte blanche. So he completely changed everything about the show, including the premise, keeping only the title and Nichols as the star.
It was still intended fo rmidseason, but FOX kept delaying it, finally releasing it as a summer series. Obviously it went nowhere in the ratings, and while not officially cancelled, it’s been off the air for several weeks now–just as it was starting to get interesting (imho). It also starred Adam Baldwin as an FBI agent, which alone made it worth watching for me.

They could use some digital editing and get rid of that growing tummy or just past J’s face on stunt body. Would it be that expensive?
