my husband and i got our wedding cake from the cake artist's studio and it was amazing. it didn't look like a wedding cake at all...no white to speak of. it was colorful and funky and beautiful and it tasted absolutely amazing. i think there's a photo of it in one of ashlee's books at the shop--it's the cake that's all tilty and seussian and red/purple/green/yellow. and it has bees on top instead of a bride and groom.

we had the regular chocolate cake (not the german chocolate) as one of our layers, and the champagne white was the largest layer. the top layer (which i get to enjoy next october, yay) is banana split, my favorite.

we looked at allerton but were a bit put off by the price as well as the fact that there's no handy rain location (if you want an indoor area, you have to rent it separately, and i don't think you can rent it at the same time you rent the park area). we didn't want a tent--it kind of defeats the purpose of an outdoor wedding and detracts from the beautiful setting, so that was kin dof a deal-breaker for us. it's a beautiful park, though, and a lovely place for a wedding. we ended up at ewing manor in bloomington and it was gorgeous, even though we got married outdoors on the coldest day in october. at least we were able to take the reception indoors!
