Ask TangognaT: Online Education Dictionaries

Posted on | May 22, 2005 | 2 Comments

A question came in from someone looking for a good online secondary education dictionary. I was able to come up with a few links, but if anyone else out there has any good ideas, post some suggestions in the comments.

There’s always the old standby, the ERIC Thesarus which has short definitions for the terms listed.

There’s this Lexicon of Learning

Or The Educator’s Reference Desk

This site collects links to education glossaries.

Anyone have any other ideas?

If by any chance your local library system has access to the Gale Virtual Reference Library, you can view the Encyclopedia of Education, Second Edition, which “provide(s) a comprehensive description of the enterprise of education both within the United States and throughout the world. Approximately 900 articles offer a view of the institutions, people, processes, and products found in educational practice.” I’m sure there’s a definition or two in those 8 volumes.

That’s a good point, my library doesn’t get the Gale stuff, so I didn’t even think of that resource!

There’s also this Encyclopedia of Educational Technology from San Diego State University
