bits and pieces

I upgraded the knitting blog to the new version of wordpress and didn’t run into any major problems, except I accidently deleted the stylesheet I’d been using for the site and my RSS feeds started 404ing. The fix for the feed issue is described here, and the fixed header file is here. I’m probably going [...]

pirates, PDFs, and soldiers

I might pick up Scurvy Dogs, it sounds like a fun read.
DC America’s Best Comics issues available as PDF downloads
Unnecessary guide to the Seven Soldiers, I was glad to see this. I’ll buy Seven Soldiers because of Grant Morrison but I’m fairly clueless about not very well known DC universe characters.

please go away, aromatic security guard

February 23rd, 2005 at 12:52 am » Comments (3)

I miss the old security guard. I only saw him occasionally, as he made rounds through the library moving from place to place like a camoflaged shark. He’d nod as he passed the reference desk and then went on his way, I assume to patrol the more obscure parts of the building where you’d expect [...]

what I read on my mini-break

February 22nd, 2005 at 9:22 am » Comments (0)

I breezed through Diana Wynne Jones‘ Chronicles of the Chrestomanci vol 1 and found it good
I read the first couple volumes of Tsubasa and enjoyed it. The storyline focusing on versions of previous characters across multiple dimensions that are the same yet not the same wasn’t as continuity heavy as I thought it [...]

back from the big Apple

Mr. Tangognat and I got back from NYC last night. It was a quick trip, and we did a few things but didn’t try to pack tons and tons of activities into each day. We were staying right around the corner from Carnege Hall. We ate tons of good Jewish deli food and cheesecake. We [...]

Hmm….ok, I’ve been tagged, so here we go.
1. How much space is left on your TIVO or Comcast box?
I do not have one of those fancy new-fangled TIVOS or PVRs, so I guess an infinite amount of space is left on the TIVO I do not own.
2. Have you ever bought a DVD of a [...]

inside higher ed

February 16th, 2005 at 9:24 am » Comments (3)

It is interesting to see this new Inside Higher Ed site spring up just as the Chronicle seems to be offering less and less free content. I think even the two free articles they used to post every week are gone now. Inside Higher Ed seems to be more blog friendly, linking to blogs, [...]

too much to do

February 15th, 2005 at 10:25 pm » Comments (4)

But not much going on at the reference desk tonight, where I mediated a dispute about classroom space, gently informed someone that their ice cream bar stub violated the library’s no food policy after answering their reference question, troubleshot issues with usb drives, and answered someone who called me “M’am.”
Later this week Mr. Tangognat and [...]

100 things I love about comics meme

February 14th, 2005 at 10:07 pm » Comments (0)

Like a horrible virus, this meme is spreading. Are you having a good Valentine’s Day? The future Mr. Tangognat cooked me dinner and helped me author this blog post. Some of the things on the list are things I used to love, but may not love currently. Anyway, here we go, the 100 things we [...]
