My son has alot of games; he still has his PS2 even though he now has something else. I’ll see what he’s got in the box and get back to you.

    PS–Happy Heart Day!

    Let’s see. . .

Kingdom Hearts (just be warned: the camera’s pretty wonky; I’ve heard KH2 fixes it)
    Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
    Mega Man Anniversary Collection
    Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
    Dynasty Warriors 4/XTreme Legends/Kingdoms
    And if you haven’t already, I’d also recommend taking advantage of the PS2’s backwards-compatibility, and hunting down some copies of Mega Man Legends 1 & 2 and their spinoff, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne;
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one of the most beautiful side-scrollers ever constructed
The underrated action/fantasy game Threads of Fate
The Wipeout series (includes Wipeout Fusion on PS2)
And the original Metal Gear Solid.

the cracked out game Katomari (? sp) where you roll a ball around, pick up stuff (like dogs, sushi, batteries, elephants, people, flowers, etc). to make stars (katomari). It’s absolute crack, very Japanese, very addictive.

What sort of games are you looking for? Gamers — in my experience — often prefer one type of game over others, e.g. RPG, shooters, platformers, etc. (It’s sometimes a matter of age: my reaction time just isn’t as fast as it once was, and I find platformers, with all the jumping around, rather frustrating.) And some gamers prefer more action, while others go for the story-telling aspects, and yet others are willing to sacrifice a certain amount of playability for the right sort of graphics or style or a certain “je ne sais quoi”.

Off the top of my head, though: if you have, and like, Final Fantasy X, go on to X-2 — it’s fluffier, but it’s fun. And Alex Scott is right, don’t limit yourself to PS2: try the earlier Final Fantasy games, from VII on up. My personal favourite is VIII, in large part because of the interaction between the characters: love, friendship, and betrayal …
PS1’s Chrono Cross is also a wonderful RPG with good replay value, since your various choices can and generally do affect the storyline.

If you like platformers, PS1’s Spyro the Dragon (the first in the series) is a charmer, although aimed more at children. If you like fighting games, try PS2’s Baldur’s Gate or Champions of Norrath: lots of hacking and slashing, but the scenery is often stunning, and there are a lot of small “touches” (like tiny mice wandering about the dungeons) that add to the atmosphere. Another fighter is Gauntlet, which is just plain fun in an often slightly campy way, but some of the scenery is wonderful. All three of these fighters can be played by up to four people simultaneously if you have a multi-tap.

I’ll go through my PS1/PS2 collection and see if I can spot anything I’ve forgotten …

I think that in terms of genre, I’ll end up liking RPGs the best, although it is all basically new to me. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!
