planning for ALA

Posted on | January 3, 2005 | 6 Comments

So I’m trying to figure out my ALA schedule, I think I’m going to be going to a bunch of discussion groups about opacs and usability and emerging technology. And there’s a mefi meetup on Friday.

But the most important thing about ALA is figuring out which comic book vendors are going to be there! It looks like this year, Dark Horse, Image Comics, Tokyopop, Viz, and Diamond Book Distributors are going to be in the exhibit hall. If I’ve missed any, please let me know.

If any of my siblings want me to attempt to procure discounted manga for them, they should contact me.

I’m beyond being surprised at the ALA web site, but I think it is really weird that the event planner “login” is just typing in your e-mail address. It doesn’t seem very secure, and some mischievous person could probably figure out the e-mail address that you registered with, login to your planner, and muck up your meeting schedule. Not that anyone would ever do that.

There have been people talking about a general library blogger get together, but nothing seems to have materialized so far….

Have fun! Are you coming to ACRL, or ALA Chicago?

Ah, I don’t think I’m going to ACRL. And even though ALA Chicago is near my old hometown, I’m not sure if I’m going to make it because I’m going to be going on a massive road trip around the time of the conference. I went to ALA in Chicago before and remember it as being a logistical nightmare.

Although I might actually be in the midwest in late June. Huh. I really have no idea!

I was going to avoid the vendors altogether but now I guess I’ll have to go!

We’ll have to get together sometime. I’m planning on finding the antiquarian book vendors, and anyone who’ll give me free stuff. Yay free stuff. :)

Greg, the comic book vendors sometimes have freebies.

Librarygirl -Yes, that sounds like fun — I am also all about the free stuff!
