I’ve had a relaxing vacation so far. I’ve read good books (The Grand Tour and Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell) and watched good movies (Life Aquatic, Ocean’s 12, and Lemony Snicket. I’ve also enjoyed some fine Mexican food and an unusual amount of sleep (8-10 hours, when I usually average around 5-6). So I’m trying [...] Here we go!. I really have to actually read the Sin City graphic novels, I think I’ll be placing some interlibrary loan requests when I get back from vacation. Sometimes I wish I subscribed to fewer listservs, because the browbeating and rending of garments that goes on in reaction to a potentially cool announcement gets to be a bit much sometimes. It seems like the libraries involved are getting a pretty good deal, [...] I’m glad I had this 13+ year gap when I didn’t watch much anime, because now there are plenty of series out there that I can catch up with. I’m waiting for the next volume of 12 Kingdoms to be released, but in the meantime I can start working my way through the series Last [...] Thought balloons links to this Q & A session with Lemony Snicket. I haven’t seen the movie yet, maybe I will later this week when I’m on vacation, even though some people have found it less than thrilling. This doesn’t look too healthy for the books Yakitate! Japan is an anime all about — baking bread! This might not seem like the most compelling storyline for a tv show, but I finished watching the first couple of episodes, and found it charming. The hero of the show, Azuma Kazuma, comes from a family of rice farmers. His life is changed [...] The Royal Family, all about Babar in The New York Review of Books. Fugly Potter Manolo’s shoe blog MASH tv show theme song lyrics (I knew the lyrics were depressing, but I never realized exactly how depressing they were). I was eating a delicious after work sandwich made out of fried egg and cheese, and when I bit into it, there was an unfortunate explosion of yolk which I quickly cleaned up with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer paper towels.
