I’m back home again! I spent a large part of my vacation shopping for books and reading. I think I finished reading 6 1/2 books and 4+ volumes of manga while on vacation. Sometimes I forget how quickly I can tear through a novel given blocks of uninterrupted time, especially when I’m reading some not very taxing fantasy/sci-fi. I finished a bunch of Sharon Shinn novels, and I also read Howl’s Moving Castle and am half of the way through Perdido Street Station. I went shopping at Kinokuniya and picked up some stationary and Read or Die manga.

I also enjoyed bringing music to my relatives by singing the Spiderman Song. I’m sure hearing that song over and over again only built up the anticipation for the movie.

Now I have to play catch-up at work and get a ton of stuff done before I go on vacation again at the end of the month ;)

Perdido Street Station is a great book. Mieville’s world is unique to say the least, bit dark too. His follow-up The Scar was great as well and I’m looking forward to Iron Council which comes out at the end of the month.

I’m crazy impressed that you got halfway through Perdido Street Station in that short a period of time, let alone all the other books and manga. It’s great stuff, incredible dense, but good. I second Greg’s suggestion to also check out The Scar, which is set in the same world though not in the same city. Looking forward to Iron Council as well.

My natural reading speed is crazy fast, and being trapped on an airplane gave me many hours for reading. I’ll add The Scar to my to be read list, although I might have to wait for it to be at the public library, as I have spent way too much money on books recently.

sharon shinn is fun to read ~ which did you get through? the only one i wasn’t really into was the jane eyre-remake, ugh. but the others were fun, definitely not taxing, but still pretty smart..

I read Archangel, Jovah’s Angel, and The Alleluia Files. Nice vacation reading!
