what I’ve done at ALA annual
Norma’s blogging about what librarians do at ALA
I dunno, I’m not going this year (too much going on this summer and I don’t care for Orlando), but this is a selection of what I’ve done at ALA back when I was in grad school and after I became a librarian, in no particular order:
Hung out [...]
reading the classics
Inspired by feelings of inadequacy over not remembering many of the books that I’ve read on that classics list that’s been going around many blogs and Granny Next’s bedtime reading in The Well of Lost Plots (find it at your library), I’m actually going to attempt to read some classic works of literature between trips [...]
d’oh!
Since it is summer, I’m planning my classes in the fall and I’ve decided to set up a library/work AIM screenname and give it out in my classes along with my e-mail address. Why didn’t I think of doing this before, like 2-3 years ago?
I don’t tend to get a ton of e-mail questions [...]
summer refgrunt
It’s been awhile since I refgrunted, here goes:
He needs Bandaids
She wants to put a trace on a second copy of a book (one copy is listed as checked out) that I think might not exist, even though it is listed as being in the catalog. I take down her information but tell her to place [...]
wordpress for dummies
I think I’m going to start blogging a bit about wordpress and what I’m going to do to start tweaking this site a bit. Wordpress is really easy to use (I’ve set up 3 wordpress blogs and only ran into trouble when I was attempting to republish the individual entries from my old movable type [...]
manga quick takes
Prince of Tennis #1
This is the first sports manga that I’ve read. I wasn’t expecting to find it so entertaining. A mysterious student, Ryoma Echizen, enrolls at a school with an extremely competative tennis team. He soon starts to humiliate all the upperclassmen with his unbeatable serve. The first volume hints at various storylines to [...]
another blog about library blogs
http://librariansindex.blogspot.com/ via the granddaddy of all library blogs about library blogs, lisblogsource. It looks like it is just getting started, where’s Nat, tinylittlelibrarian, or librarystuff for example? It links to things that aren’t blogs, like Walt Crawford’s homepage and a page for Revolting Librarians, I’m not saying those aren’t worthy things to link to, but [...]
escape to canada
I just realized that I’m going to be getting out of boston (via boston common) during part of the democratic national convention. I wonder if the airport is going to be nightmarish when I’m leaving and returning. I guess I’ll have to plan some extra travel time. I’m glad my passport is still valid.
chronicles of macduff
My little sister reviews the most recent film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
