what not to wear

in: Library

Good lord, I am watching an episode of What Not to Wear, and it looks like the latest episode maybe features a librarian, or at least someone who works in a library. They mention her going to an annual library conference (stating it is the same as going to an undertakers conference, hmm), maybe she works for a library vendor. Whew! She works in an office.

Now they are making her throw away her Nick Cave t-shirt!

Yes, I saw that last night, too. She said she was an office manager for “a library association,” and she lives and works in Chicago. Dare I step out on a limb and guess that she might be office manager for ALA’s main office? Unfortunately I cannot remember her name, ’cause I was only half-watching. But perhaps she’ll be at ALA Midwinter in San Diego, or Annual in Orlando.

BTW, any library bloggers or blog readers who will be at ALA Midwinter, a few of us are trying to set up a get-together. Please pass the word and get in touch if you’d like to join us.

Yeah, I wouldn’t throw away a Nick Cave t-shirt if I had one!

I totally wasn’t connecting her to ALA, but that really makes sense. She had a lot more personality than some of the other victims on that show.

I’m skipping ALA this year :( But the next time midwinter is in Boston, I’m all about the library blogging get-together!

I wondered about that, too, since I missed the beginning. I thought perhaps Stacy was putting together 2 typically bad-dressing stereotypes. But then they mentioned office, so I figured it couldn’t be the case. I love that show!!

Wayne is doing Justin Timberlake’s wardrobe for his world tour. He’s also cut is hair, after having it long since the 80’s. Justin likes the hair. : )

I always thought that Wayne was a little mean although he was funny.

This is why I much prefer the British version of the show, the women are much more sympathetic –
“You think you have arm flab?! Look at my arm flab!” *jiggle jiggle*

It looks like Donia is a blogger:

I don’t like this show as much as the British original. The hosts are too mean and catty…and throwing out a nick cave T-shirt???
Though if someone gave me 5k to spend on cloting, I’d be all over it.

I can’t make midwinter this year, but next year it’ll be in Boston, my backyard!

I couldn’t quite figure out if Donia is a librarian or not, but I know she does not have a very good opinion of librarians. Equating us with undertakers and saying she’d be the best dressed at a conference really angered me. If I run into her at a conference I may have a few words for her. Aren’t any of you upset at the perpetuation of the stereotype of librarians having no style? She’s obviously never seen the Lipstick Librarian web site!

I will say one good thing about her - she really made me question whether or not she was truly happy with the makeover as she did complain a lot about feeling more body conscious after the makeover. These makeovers aren’t always a good thing.

Eek, Librarygirl and I should go out for coffee, I had no idea we were neighbors!

I don’t know, I thought in comparison with some of the fashion victims on What Not to Wear, Donia had a lot of personality. In my mind it is better to see someone associated with libraries get in trouble for having too many rock t-shirts than to get in trouble for having too many 1970s blouses with the little bow ties (something I have seen at ALA from time to time).

I think that the show is so snarky in general, I don’t expect them to say many positive things. And I must say, I’m not all that styling myself since my work wardrobe basically follows the rule of “anything but jeans” and draws upon an endless supply of black cardigans and fluevog boots : )
