I swear, I’ve had my trusty laptop for almost a year now, and nary a sight of the dreaded blue screen of death…but something happened to it last night and I somehow got into a horrible loop that would always end in the blue screen of death, it wasn’t allowing me to get into safe mode, or to a command prompt, or to my last known good settings.
I swear, I shouldn’t have had to figure out that I needed to enter setup to change my boot order so I could boot directly from my Windows XP CD, so I could finally get to a command prompt where I typed in some commands to fix everything.
But I did! Even after getting home after a long 4 hour shift at the reference desk! Go me!
I’m quite proud of myself for my computer troubleshooting skills, even though I didn’t exactly know what I was doing. I’ve come a long way from where I was when I first entered library school, when I viewed computers as a glorified tool for typing up poetry and papers on Eighteenth century literature, and I thought e-mail was weird and offputting.
I swear, if I ever start blogging about getting a new computer, please, please, please remind me to get a Mac.
